CONGRATULATIONS! Your group has decided to run a candidate for GOVERNOR OF LOUISIANA!To gain votes and win the upcoming classroom election, your candidate will need to identify a platform, or a list of ideas and issues, that (s)he supports. Your group will need to think about what is important to your local community—your classroom—and what your candidate will do to make our state a better place in which to live. Your group should use the information learned from researching Louisiana’s political parties to help identify important state issues. Select your candidate carefully!
Notice of Intent to Run Candidates for office must show that they meet requirements for that office by completing a Notice of Candidacy Qualifying Form. They must also pay a qualifying fee. For more information, to view requirements for state elected offices, and to see the official qualifying form, visit the Secretary of State’s Election Web site.Your candidate does not have to pay a fee to run for office in a classroom election. However, (s)he must complete the Notice of Candidacy for Class Office Qualifying Form. When completed, submit you candidate's form to your teacher.
Get to Know the Voters! Candidates often use polls, or surveys, to find out which issues are important to the public.
Next, you will need to find out how local voters (your classmates) feel about these same issues. 2. Prepare and distribute a classroom survey of current issues. See our Public Opinion Poll for ideas. 3. Examine the results of your classroom survey. You may wish to prepare charts and graphs that illustrate the results of your survey. 4. Check the Spring 2007 Survey Summary to see which issues are most important to Louisiana voters. How do these results compare to the results of your classroom survey? Your Platform Now that you know the issues that are important to your classmates and to Louisiana voters, you and your candidate should prepare an election platform. Use our Forging a Political Platform guide to select the issues that are important to your group.
But. . . You’re not finished! As governor, you will need to decide how you want to spend government money! Go to the Budget section of this site to prepare a budget. |
