Join our adventure into the exciting world of politics!

Follow the campaign trail to explore one of the most important features of our American democracy—elections and voting.

Here you can register to vote, investigate political parties, campaign for governor, build a platform, prepare a state budget, and vote in a simulated election.

Contents and Overview of the Activities

Learn about your rights and responsibilities as a citizen of your class, your community, your state, and your country.

You and your classmates will have fun learning about political campaigns and elections. To understand the real-world election process, complete the activities in this order:

1. Party:

Investigate the need for political parties and explore Louisiana’s recognized political parties. Register to vote in a classroom election.

2. Platform:

Compare and contrast the platforms of current political parties. Examine public opinion polls. Prepare and conduct surveys to discover which issues are important to Louisiana voters and to your classmates. Announce your intent to run for governor and submit a Notice of Qualifying Form. Prepare a campaign platform.

3. Budget:

Investigate how government money is spent. Prepare a state budget and chart your proposed budget.

4. Campaign:

Examine campaign strategies to discover ways candidates influence voters. Write and deliver a campaign speech. Design and prepare buttons, slogans, and banners.

5. Vote:

Vote in a classroom election and graph the results of the election.
