The Campaign Trail

Louisiana political campaigns are some of the most exciting events in history!

Candidates for governor travel around the state making speeches and speaking with voters. They use campaign buttons, slogans, and banners as well as radio, billboard, and television ads to gain support.

How Do Candidates Influence Voters?

Candidates make many promises about the things they will do if elected. Explore the Influencing the Influencing the Public Slideshow and Influencing Voters Puzzle to identify some ways candidates influence voters and shape public opinion.

Your Campaign!

As political advisors, your group will help your candidate campaign for election.

First: Write a Campaign Speech

Help your candidate prepare and practice a one-minute campaign speech which explains what (s)he will do if elected governor (see the Speech Guidelines and Rubric for speech writing instructions).

Next: Plan Your Campaign

Use the Campaign Banner Maker to design a campaign poster. Ask your teacher if you may place campaign banners and posters around the room and distribute campaign buttons to prepare for the election.

Campaign Speeches!

Ask each candidate to deliver her/his one-minute campaign speech to the class. Use the Campaign Speeches Guide to identify each candidate's message.
