One of the responsibilities of the governor is to submit a budget to the Legislature. A budget is a plan of how to spend state money wisely.

Think About It. . .

1. Why do you think our state government needs a budget?

2. What expenses does our government have?

Explore the What Does Government Do For Me Web site to find out how government spends money (select “Impact of Congress”).

If You Were Governor. . .

If you were governor, how would you spend state money? Your group should select five of the following issues which are important to your group members. Discuss the issues to reach a consensus (agreement).
